Dr. Tushar Shah, M.S., M.Ch, has been practicing thoracic surgery in Ahmedabad, India since 28 years. He won several gold medals and awards during his initial surgical training at Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Before he started his lessons in Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, he spent nearly a year at Gujarat Cancer And Research Institute, Ahmedabad. Here, under guidance of Dr. D. D. Patel and Dr. R. I. Dave, he learnt the basics of cancer surgery.
He was the youngest recipient of Hari Ohm Ashram Prerit Alembic Research Award, 1981. He sharpened his surgical skills under stalwarts of his field like Micheal Debakey and Denton Cooley at Houston, US. He was Assistant Professor of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at V. S. General Hospital, Ahmedabad for eight years where he pioneered a high volume department and trained 15 surgeons who are today busy Thoracic surgeons across the globe.
More than 5000 patients have been given a new lease of life by his thoracic surgical expertise. Owing to his deep interest in lung parenchyma saving surgeries for infective and malignant diseases of lung, he took special training in laser lung surgery under Matthias Steinert at Hospital Martha-Maria, Halle, Germany. Subsequently, he started Laser Assisted Pulmonary Metastasectomy (LAPM) using 1318nm diode laser for the first time in Asia on 8th April, 2011.
